Changing times

I've known for a while that I haven't been checking in here and it is time. I still make jewelry, still have done markets, I've painted within the last year. I've not done so much writing, and it's time to change that.

They usually say keep things to yourself and just show people later on what you've done but I don't mind saying that I'm changing gears with changing times. I can never stop making stuff as it's at the core of who I am. I am however changing how I approach what I'm doing.

I'm attempting to rebuild my website which has not been live for probably 5 years even though I've continued to pay for the domain. I did not sign up for summer markets that I normally do and I recently bowed out on the ones that I signed up for because I realize I'm missing too much.

I love the people that I have met that have appreciated my art in any way. I love the connections I've made with other artists and Hope to keep connecting with them. But it has come to my attention that over the many years I have missed too many things. I have missed social gatherings, celebrations, concerts, bonfires and many more.

I have used art to hide, it's also saved me. It has saved me from boredom and loneliness. But sometimes it does create loneliness.

When I sit and do art, I'm alone. I'm alone with thousands of beads and endless options. Only once in my life have I created a jewelry design more than once. It was for a mom who had bought herself a pair of earrings and loved them so much she wanted an identical pair for her daughter, I explained I don't usually do this but I would be happy to do it on this occasion.

I've never really been lost, just hiding in the art. Years ago I wrote a poem when I was just a teenager and I took that poem many, many years ago and built it into a story. I challenged myself to continue writing that story and make it large enough to become a book. I have written over 150,000 words, possibly over 200,000. My hope is to get back to writing and stop hiding behind the art.

Art can heal the artist and the person enjoying it. But often the artist needs healing, expression, connection, and an outlet. When I did not want people to know my words I turned to making jewelry. Now, I'm going to get back to my words.

Staying Active

I hope this post finds you well. I have been actively making jewelry and painting for the last year, I just haven't had easy access to internet so that I can share with you

Currently I am selling my creations on etsy and I am involved in an upcoming fundraiser.

Pictured above  is a recent design that is a favorite of mine. Hand wired and full of wonders!

What May I Create for You?

I wanted to post a picture of my stacks of supplies and ask what may I make for you? And then I realize I can't get a decent shot to share as I have my photo taking board with mail and a jewelry stand on it and my lampshade I'm standing next to is stained. So, instead I'm sharing the beautiful pearl necklace I created a few months back.

Here's my etsy product description

Created with love...
Stunning white pearl statement necklace featuring two inch long gold leaves, 10mm pearls and stick pearls. The center is a pearl that while hung upside down does actually resemble a heart. It is capped with bali 14kt gold and from it hangs fine 14 kt gold chain and two pearls that measure about 4 to 5 mm.
The closure is a 14 kt gold flower that has been wire wrapped to the necklace for security with 14 kt gold filled wire. No plated gold was used in this design with the exception being the leaves which could be plated ~they were taken off a pair of earrings and are stamped on the back "KJL" China.

The necklace measures just under 18 1/2" long. The fine gold chain that hangs in the center measures about two inches, the pearl above measures about 3/4 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
One of a kind. Beautiful, elegant and unique. Wear with pride and confidence on your special day. The last picture is the necklace shown before the pearls were added to the chain so you can see how it lays on the neck..
These are "real" pearls, not glass or south sea shell pearls. Thank you for looking and happy day :)

Here is a close up of the beautiful gold flower closure.

The listing has since expired and I probably need to relist it with a little tweaking on the SEO.

It's funny how we live with our creative mess all around us and we don't notice until we try and take a photo we wish to share with the world...maybe next time.

Deviant Art Doll in A Box

So did I tell you the story about loving to create?

:)

this time I

decided to create something completely different. Not jewelry, not a painting. ....

can you guess by the above picture what my plan is that I have been forming in my head?

What I have been planning and now am pretty much finished with is what I will call a deviant art doll box.

A box that contains a beautiful doll that is missing half an arm. As with all art, there is a meaning. Love yourself as you are. Let others see your beauty under your superficial flaws. You are beautiful.

I painted a wood cigar box a teal blue on the inside and black on the outside. I used a silver permanent marker for the lettering:

"You are beautifully made and I accept you lovingly as you are"

Because this lovely girl is beautiful on her own, she doesn't feel the need to cover herself in fine clothes or jewels although she does favor them and they lay amongst her as treasure. They are more than simple treasure, they are memories captured in textiles and stone.

May your memories be sweet...

Continue On

I love to create.

It creates a happiness in me
that doesn't leave.

I moved my jewelry into my storenvy exclusively and have decided to keep etsy for other art..

Today, I was thrift store shopping and came across this...

Shes a beautiful monster doll minus half an arm and I knew she had to come home with me for my next project. She's bolted and sewn together and her entire body is a greenish blue color. Shes perfect ...

So perfect in fact that I am going to create an art piece around her..... and then the art piece will go into my etsy shop

And She Painted the Afternoon Away

While the breeze rustled the trees
while the music continued on
she painted the afternoon away

Welcome to the Alice Painting
where there is hope
Where worlds intersect and collide in
unsuspecting and friendly ways

Where lyrics sing along the lines
of flowers that sprout from nowhere

Enjoy

May you have a beautiful day...

Head Turning Jewelry

For whatever reason your head turns quick
                                                                 to catch a glimpse
of the jewelry the person that just walked by
                                                                  is adorned with.

Its asymmetrical, its quirky or just plain stunning. You admire the way it rest on their skin.

You think about how it would feel. You examine the colors and the way it catches the light.

You appreciate the finery in every detail

The wire that bends like it has been catapulted into time and space with irreverence and a touch of grace

The pearls that stroke the skin and melt the fears within

The flowers that are forever in bloom

The crystals with deep glow

and birds that have no where to go

Expressing Myself

I decided to doodle on a canvas with a fine marker

This sweet girl is dreaming of tea. The scent of it, the warmth of it and the pretty little cup she sips from

The bird is a hunter with broken wings, he hunts anyway. His spirit can not be broken.

The white canvas is absolute fun for me. later, I decided I must do more...

I have named this ghost figure Sue. Blue Sue. You will see why in later pictures. She is reaching out..

Every corner needs a few wild flowers..

And then the painting begins...and I must add words for I am a word girl...

The flower is a bright sunshine yellow and is strong despite winds of turmoil.

I add purple for a dramatic effect

The wildflowers get tiny bits of pink and yellow that matches the tea dreamer girls hair...

This little guy is just learning and is filled with love

I'm making progress after about three hours or so of work...Sue is now Blue

See? Blue Sue.

For Within Life and Death There is Beauty

Close up of the peacock tear drop shaped pearl that I wire wrapped with seed beads and hung a gold flower under.

Pretty gold flower with a crystal center

I am quite happy with how the pendant turned out.

Contemplating whom this necklace should be worn by....

Blogging about My Designs...

I create one of a kind designs in a variety of styles using quality materials including vintage components, stone, pearls and lampwork.

My style varies and can be best described as bohemian or hippie chic. I do not desire to mass market or succumb to any ones idea of what should be made, I design and create what comes to mind.

In addition to jewelry I also create polymer clay sculptures, beads, beaded purses, paintings and other accessories.

I have had the pleasure of selling my creations at many local festivals in Washington and Ohio state as well as in galleries and retail locations. Just always look for the shop name "Bohemian Glitz".

Jewelry repair such as restringing and simple repairs that do not require flame and torch are also possible.

On a personal note...mother of two. One almost seven year old and a young lady of 22. Married and content.
